That should simply be taken literally, i.e. that you can't code
/dirname/*/dirname/file.log

The idea is simply that you can do something like codifying a file name of
/topdir/file*.log, and with recursion active, nxlog will look for that file
name in "topdir", or any lower-level directories within the tree structure
under "topdir", so if a directory /topdir/newdir/ is created, then nxlog will
begin looking for file*.log content within that directory (or, obviously, any
previous directories within the tree).
Hopefully I didn't mangle that explanation...
