I learned the hard way: cell phones are not a replacement for land line service. At least get something, even if it’s a lifeline that you pay for by the minute. Remember, landlines work without batteries when the power is out.

Well unless you are going to use it for Internet access ( I hope not) or for a Fax....then I would suggest you get a good Cell phone plan..with sprint..ATT or any of the others....I think sprint has 400 or 4000 min. for $39 a month..or something like that.....

I know this is off topic but I'm looking for a dialtone in my new apartment
on the Upper East Side. I just called RCN and found out they don't offer
service. I'm not that happy about spending ~$50/month for Verizon service
with "unlimited local calling". Is anyone using an alternate phone company
that they are happy with?
