Hello Everyone,
Let's make sure this is clear... this is an ordinary AP. Nothing special, but
very cheap. External antennas are not supported out of the box, and it does not
support standalone repeating. By bridging, it simply means it can pass IPs that are
served from another DHCP Server on the network. Also, the web based mgmt, is http.
Besides the AP Terry mentioned, the other secure way to change the config of an AP is
via a cross-over cable.
Also, if you get a PCI card for wireless cards, make sure it is simply a
bridge (such as the ORiNOCO one) for PCMCIA cards. There are a few vendors that sell
PCI cards, but hard-code them for their wireless cards. Bridges allow you to put in
any card.
And, the APs I tend to recommend are ORiNOCO (I prefer), Cisco (best range),
and LinkSys gear (for beginners, or specific need, such as using two for bridging two
networks).
