The Sugarloaf article looks great. As for Photovoltaic 802.11b, I had done a Google some time ago, for "solar battery recharger" and at least one link pointed to something that looked like it could be used as a solar-based UPS. It was cheap, eg, about $30. I have no clue if a single such unit would provide enough juice here in sunny NYC, but I imagine you could run 2 of them in parrallel to double the amperage.
