i can't quite understand this business about how a higher-power radio
actually allows it to receive better.

more radio watts clearly allows it's signal to reach farther.  but how does
it receive better?

are the electronics somehow made to be 'more sensitive', and the received
signals somehow more intelligently interpreted?

so if one adds a 1Watt amplifier onto a laptop, but the access point is
still transmitting at 100mA, how is it that suddenly the laptop can hear it
from a greater distance?
