After talking with Ben, and a few others, we are going to try a "wireless show and tell" at the next few meetings.
At the next few meetings, there will be some time were people can bring in their strange, interesting, or hacked-together gear to show others. It is a good way to make the meetings a bit more hands-on, educational, and interactive.
For example, the list has been talking about wireless PDA's, MeshAP box, and repeaters. But there is no one that has a bunch of this gear in one room, so we are all wondering how it scales and works in real life. By bringing in your D-Link 900+ repeaters or MeshAP boxes we can see if, in fact, we can put together real mesh networks on the fly...
TOPICS for "SHOW and TELL"
* Wireless PDA's of All Origin.
(There is a lot of talk on the list about which PDA is better, so this will allow people to see what experienced users think about their model. ALSO, importantly, any "vintage" PDA's that you had to hack into or raise from the dead please bring too. There are a lot of talented people in the group that have done amazeing things with "updated" gear.)
* Small or Sub (WiFi-Enabled) Notebooks
(see above)* MeshAP Gear, or Any "Mesh" Gear
(on the list it sounds like a number a people bought a MeshAP box. But no one bought a number of them. SO, if a few people bring theirs' in we can all see them in action. And the MeshAP people have others to MeshAP with)
* Captive Portal Page Designs.
(if you have really good graphic design on your captive portal, and you want to show it off, b/c it's so cool or state-of-the-art. Or you want to announce a portal somewhere in new york.... Make it web accessable and we can show it on the projector. For example, I'll be showing a captive portal design for the East Village for the next meeting. )
At the meeting we can see who has brought stuff to show or play with, and make sure everyone has a least some chance to present it. Also please feel free to organise with others on the list...(like all the MeshAP folks). If you have questions or want to give us a heads-up that you want to bring something please email the list, Ben, Dustin or myself.
Thanks, Yury
