Basically it allows someone with a Speakeasy DSL to charge there neighbors for sharing it out. Speakeasy handles the billing, e-mail acct, news server acct, and a backup dial-up acct. The Speakeasy DSL customer handles all the WiFi issues, and networking issues. The DSL customer selects from a range of pricing ($20 to $100). There is a
50/50% price split between Speakeasy and the DSL Customer.
The site says they only credit your bill. Doesn't say what happens if you start making a profit.
Or instead just have your neighbor paypal it to you, have them sign for for free email, and take %100 instead.
Great to see an wireless friendly ISP being innovative.
------------------------------------ Some interesting notes from the FAQ:
Speakeasy refers to it as "A community-driven wireless connection".
"Avoid the embarrassment of asking your neighbors and friends to chip in, and participate in building a true wireless community with Speakeasy NetShare service."
Q: "Am I responsible for the NetShare customer usage?"
A: "As a NetShare Admin (DSL Customer), you are responsible for all traffic taking place on your circuit, whether generated by yourself or your NetShare Customers. This covers abuse, reasonable use, etc."
