I recently met Chichi Pierce, who is head of 3D & I (http://www.3d-i.org), an educational website for children to learn about the process of "design". She expressed interest in working with NYCwireless to build a module for 3D & I's website on wireless technology.

Who within the NYCwireless community would be interested to work on this project? This is a great opportunity to help teach kids about wireless! I can provide more information in person on Wednesday evening for those of you who are interested.

Please send me an email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), and I will organize a planning meeting.

Below, I'm including a little blurb about 3D & I:

------
3D & I - Teaching kids all about design and new media

3D & I is the working title of an ambitious and timely multi-pronged program to teach children about design, media, and new technologies—competencies increasingly necessary for the 21st century.

Media literacy, visual literacy, and technological literacy are common buzzwords now, but the skills and understanding they describe haven’t yet become much more widespread. Yet as these new “literacies” become more and more important to an individual child’s future—as a student, worker, creative human being, and citizen—many schools and teachers lack the resources to teach in these areas, and cannot begin to tackle the task. 3D & I is created to address this urgent and growing need. What Sesame Street did for small children and reading, 3D & I will do for pre-teens and visual literacy.

The site is interactive, with hands-on modules to help kids understand the functions of design. From following each module, kids learn the process of design, and see that process in all of the objects around them. Kids can create their own designs share them in a gallery for other kids to see.
