You are invited to today's Noderunner Chelsea game @ EYEBEAM! It's your chance to partake in beta testing the newest high tech version of Noderunner, built by Uncommon Projects!
Run Chelsea looking for WiFi nodes, photograph the most, and win the game. Once the game is over, chase your success down with some chilled bubbly champagne. See you there today 2-4pm. (Eyebeam is located on W 21st, btw 10th and 11th Ave.)
Our equipment is limited and we would like as many people to play as possible so please bring your charged WiFi-enabled laptops and digital camera (or web-cams)--yes this might very well turn into a geekfest. We'll break up into two teams at 2pm-ish and review the rules. Today's game will last just over one hour. Please arrive at or shortly before 2pm.
The Rules
1) Run the city and scan for networks.
2) Find a open hotspot that you can connect to.
3) Take a photo of your team, at that location
4) Email that photo, from that hotspot (and only that hotspot), with the general location info (like cross streets or ballroom name) and MAC address.
5) Check out www.noderunner.com to see who is winning.
6) At the designated end time, return to EYEBEAM to see who wins bragging rights for kicking butt in Noderunner Chelsea.
FAQ's
Q. Can I bring external antennas or WiFi purses?
A. Yes bring any and all WiFi sensing and scanning hardware/garments/pets/agents/lava-lamps/amobeas you have. It might give
you the winning edge.
Q. Are you going to give us a map?
A. Nope, that's the game and hence the name, "noderunner." The teams need to find the existing open WiFi nodes in Chelsea. (We do not setup a "scavenger-hunt" of hotspots ahead of time. We want to find the open nodes that the good people of NYC have already setup and besides there are always new ones popping up all around us.) So run the street, enter buildings and galleries, climb up fire-escapes but find more nodes then the other team!
Tips:
1) Before coming please make sure you have scanning software installed on your laptop or PDA. (see below)
2) Charge you devices! : )
3) Hold your laptops high while searching for nodes.
