Metric: WiFi network gear shipments grew 200% in 2003
According to the latest research from In-Stat/MDR, shipments of WiFi access
points and notebook cards grew from 7.2 million units in 2002 to 22.7
million units in 2003, representing a growth rate of 200 percent. WiFi
hardware sales grew from $700 million in 2002 to $1.7 billion in 2003,
showing 140 percent growth. The report attributes the growth in sales to the
declining price and improved data speeds of WiFi networking equipment.
