I'm curious how they will charge for this.

Unlimited WiFi Plan:
What if 20 people live within range of your lamp post, depending of course if they are using B or G (or later if there is something new when they deploy this), they could hit a limit in how many users they could support a decently fast connection (assuming they use G it seems that it would mainly depend on what kind of connection they are running to it).

Charge by data use/minutes:
I can see them going with this as the most 'viable' option, since this is how they would likely make the most money. They would price any unlimited option really high (as they do now with cell unlimited data) to essentually limit how many people go for that option.

So they will essentially be running 18,000 hard lines to these poles? DSL? Or am I missing something here. The infrastructure is already running under the streets -- since where there is a lamppost there is likely phone lines running to buildings. There is juice running to the lamps. Would be very cool to get more details and the tech specs on how they plan to build this out.

I wonder if they plan on people using this as their main internet connection -- I would guess that would be the case but the details are scarce.

On a related note, how much solid bandwidth do you need for a single quality VOIP call?
