This looks like a really cheap technology to allow GSM carriers to extend coverage of their cellular service using Wifi. Not sure exactly why customers would care because it's not going to make it any cheaper for us. Although the ability to use your GSM phone in place that doesn't even have GSM service providers is interesting.
Suppose you live way out in the country and have no or bad cell phone coverage. You just use your Wifi AP that you will probably have anyway and use your cable modem to get cell coverage in your house. Or you travel to a country that doesn't have GSM so you just use Wifi access points to get coverage.
