hi all,
Anyone know of a way, script, or software to turn a Mac OS X system into a Captive Portal or Rouge AP configuration? For example, an iBook or Powerbook with OS X has a great Software Base Station mode (which turns it into a true AP) and Apache running natively. The "missing link" is something or some simple software that allows the Software Access Point configuration to authenticate via the Apache Server. I think this would get a lot of use by all the Mac Heads and Web Designers/Developers who can make fantastic sites and context-sensitive web-based applications, but lack the Unix know-how to do it themselves, i.e., on a dedicated Linux machine. In short it would be allow a whole bunch of people to experiment in this space. (and of course, i'll use the shizonks out of an Apple-based captive/passive portal too.)
There are things that are close, like the Apple Rendezvous feature, but that is Mac only and not really going to be useful outside of quickly demoing or prototyping a wireless portal page.
I've also looked into somehow craftily configuring Sustwork's software. They are apparently where Apple's Software Base Station software came from. But again, the advanced features are a little beyond typical web dev knowledge, so there might be a less then straight-forward way to use that...?

Been looking for more then a year now, anyone know any solutions or places to find the missing link, to make a captive or passive portal on an OS X system?
thanks in advance, Yury
