I have just been given a D-Link DWL-2000AP+ access point and when I took the
cover off, I noticed that it has both an internal antenna and an external
antenna socket.

I have a 7.8dBi omni external antenna connected to the external socket but
it doesn't seem to have made a lot of difference to the signal level around
the house compared with the standard (2dBi) omni antenna.

Does anyone have any information about how to ensure that the external
antenna is used on both transmit and receive?

I hear from another source that the D-Link DWL-900AP+ has an option to
select external or internal antenna, but I can see no such thing in the
management GUI for my DWL-2000AP+.

All help gratefully received.

Chris
