Petition to WiFi NY Hello-- I am the eCampaign Director for the Andrew Rasiej campaign for New York City Public Advocate, the number-two citywide elected official and a kind of ombudsman/watchdog post that is supposed to advocate for the public.
Today we launched a petition to bring low-cost high-speed Internet access to everyone who lives and works in New York, and make sure no one is left behind. Check out http://www.wifi4ny.com. Our work is in no small degree inspired by the pioneering efforts of NYCWireless. Thanks to advances in wireless technology, we believe that it is possible to get everyone connected for less than $10 per person, the price of a movie ticket! Wi-Fi should be like water. Or like having a dial-tone on your phone. Free in all public places -- and affordable for every business and home. It's that important to our future. The Mayor and the rest of the city's leadership hear every day from the big telecom companies and their lobbyists. The phone companies are currently twisting arms in Congress to try to kill the idea of municipal wifi in the cradle. Now it's time they hear from us. If you want to read the details on our plan to WiFi NY, go to http://www.advocatesforrasiej.com/2005/06/21/wi-fi-ny-intro/ We would love your feedback and suggestions on how to further this vital effort.
