Verizon is removing their hotspots. This is part of the reason I dropped them as my home broadband carrier.
Dear Valued Verizon Online DSL Member, We want to thank you for utilizing Verizon Wi-Fi hot spots in New York City. After a two-year technology assessment, Verizon will begin to phase out its network of 365 Wi-Fi hot spots at select public telephone locations in New York City. The Wi-Fi service was launched in May 2003 and was offered at no additional charge to Verizon Online Internet access subscribers. Alternative wireless access services, both free and subscription-based, are widely available in New York from a variety of providers. As technology has advanced, Verizon has shifted its wireless access focus to new technologies such as Verizon Wireless's V CAST and BroadbandAccess services which are carried on the company's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV- DO) network. The hot spots will be phased out over the next 60 days. The target date for completion of the phase out is June 30, 2005. Again, thank you for choosing Verizon Online DSL. Your business is important to us. Sincerely, Verizon Online DSL Broadband Customer Experience Team On Saturday 09 July 2005 10:41 pm, Andy Slezak wrote: > Terrific idea, pete - haven't heard of anything :( if you use verizon > dsl, you can use their numberous hotspots around the city and no > additional cost to you. > > Andy > CYTEXONE > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf > > Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Sent: Friday, July 08, 2005 11:47 PM > > To: [email protected] > > Subject: [nycwireless] Any place in NYC or nearby to rent > > EVDO PCMCIA card and account fora week? > > > > > > Any place in NYC or nearby to rent EVDO PCMCIA card and > > account for a week? > > This question is probably a litle bit ahead of its time, but > > does anybody know of a place in NYC or nearby where I could > > rent EVDO access for a 7 - 10 day period? > > > > I'm going to be in the NYC area for a visit. > > I have a laptop and need internet access in Teaneck, NJ in an > > office building and in a resedential building in Floral Park, > > NY.
