On Monday, January 8th NYCwireless held the third in a series of monthly Community Wireless Roundtable discussions. A transcript and audio file will be posted at NYCwireless.net. The next roundtable is scheduled for Monday, February 5 at 11am EST.

On January 11-14, NYCwireless participated in the National Conference for Media Reform (http://www.freepress.net/conference/) in Memphis, TN.

On May 18-20, NYCwireless will participate in the International Summit for Community Wireless Networks (http://www.cuwireless.net/ summit) in Columbia, MD.

1. Daniel Michelis, a doctoral candidate at the Institute of Media and Communications Management at the University of St. Gallen, will present his Berlin-based interactive urban screen project, "Magical Mirrors".

WiFi Hotspot Survey (extended until April 30, 2007):
Thanks to everyone who has participated in the WiFi Hotspot Survey! Over 450 people have responded to the survey since October 2006. I have decided to extend the survey until April 30, 2007 and set a new goal of 1000 responses. Please forward the announcement below to your friends and colleagues if you have not already done so. NYCwireless Board Member Laura Forlano, a graduate student in Communications at Columbia University, is conducting a survey on the use of the wireless Internet at cafes, parks and other public places in New York in order to better understand how these networks are being used. It is hoped that the survey will help to inform public policy on the deployment of municipal wireless networks nationwide as well as contribute to the dialogue about a comprehensive broadband strategy for New York. Call for Volunteers:
