Greetings! This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of July 27 , 
2009

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     No reports this week.


Oneida County
------------

     7/27: At Verona Marsh on Rt. 31 47 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 8 SOLITARY 
SANDPIPERS, 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 6 LESSER 
YELLOWLEGS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 6 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and 3 SEMI-PALMATED 
PLOVERS were seen. The next day 2 SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS showed up but the 
White-rumps were not to be found. Later in the week rain flooded the marsh an 
the birds moved on.


Onondaga County
------------

     8/02: At Green Lakes State Park a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was heard calling 
and 2 ORCHARD ORIOLES were seen.


Cayuga County
------------

     7/31: On the west (public) side of FairHaven State Park SEMI-PALMATED 
PLOVERS, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, and SANDERLING were seen 
on the beach.


Madison County
------------

     7/29: A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was found in with peep at Ditchbank Road.


Oswego County
------------

     8/03: At Sandy Pond 50 BLACK TERNS, 30 SANDERLINGS, 4 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 6 
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, 1 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER , and 1 RED KNOT were found.


Extralimital
------------

     There have been no reports this week, negative or positive, for the 
MISSIPPI KITES in the Town of Root, Montgomery County.
     There were 2 reports of AMERICAN AVOCETS  this week close enough to 
mention here. On 7/31 3 were seen at Myers Point on Cayuga Lake just north of 
Ithaca. On 8/01 1 bird was seen at Sodus Point in the parking lot on the east 
end of the beach.
