Birders in coastal NY might want to keep 'Ivory Gull' in mind over the
next few days or weeks. An adult was found today in Westport,
Massachusetts, which is right on the Rhode Island/Mass border. There
is speculation that it is the gorgeous adult that was on Cape Cod last
week (65 mi NE of Westport), and possibly in New Hampshire (11 Jan)
before that. Understandably, folks in Connecticut are waiting with
baited breath for its next move, but it could as easily end up on
eastern Long Island or further along the Sound (e.g. Westchester,
north shore of Long Island, New York City area or even the lower
reaches of the Hudson River. We'll see tomorrow if it hangs in the
Westport/Newport area or moves on....
