Highlights of reports received July 1 through July 8 from the Niagara Frontier Region include WILLET, CLAY-COL. SPARROW and ORCHARD ORIOLE

From Chautauqua County, July 3, a WILLET at Barcelona Harbor on Lake Erie. Found in the evening on a sandbar at the rock section of the breakwall.

July 4 in the Cattaraugus County Town of Yorkshire, one to three CLAY-COL. SPARROWS along Keller Road, along with a flyover OSPREY, COMMON RAVEN, HERMIT THRUSH, 3 YELLOW-R. WARBLERS and 8 PRAIRIE WARBLERS. Also in Cattaraugus County, VESPER SPARROW at Thomas Corners and Bond Road in Ashford.

In the Genesee County Town of Bethany, 3 ORCHARD ORIOLES - a male, female and juvenile, on Silver Road, far from the region's expected location for ORCHARD ORIOLES, the Great Lakes Plains. Also in Bethany, 19 PURPLE MARTINS on Francis Road. Nearby in the Town of Attica, on Vernal Road, Warner Road and at Gouilocks Pond - RUFFED GROUSE, AMERICAN KESTREL, ALDER FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-THR. VIREO, VEERY, OVENBIRD, SCARLET TANAGER, BOBOLINK and EASTERN MEADOWLARK.

Other reports - adult BALD EAGLE feeding on salmon carcasses at the mouth of Johnson Creek at Lake Ontario in Hartland. In the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area at Ditch Road, a roost of up to 50 GREAT EGRETS, BALD EAGLE nest with one young and several OSPREYS. On Grand Island, SWALLOWS, mostly TREE SWALLOWS, are beginning to congregate by the East River at Beaver Island State Park, and a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH has been attracted to a jelly feeder along the West River Parkway. And, a EUROPEAN GREENFINCH, most certainly an escapee, at a feeder in a Wilson yard by Lake Ontario.
