There was an adult Lark Sparrow along Archery Road in Floyd Bennett Field this
morning (8/20) at around 6:45 AM. It ranged from the fence of the Tree Nursery
down to the weedy area beyond the concrete barriers (where you are not
permitted to walk).
Not much around in the way of migrants, with a single flyover Bobolink being
the only obvious one. Two small mixed groups of shorebirds flew over,
consisting of 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 5 Short-billed
Dowitchers. The Runway Puddles have now been replenished and look good for
shorebirds. There was only a single juvenile Least Sandpiper there this morning
(which soon disappeared), but they definitely warrant consistent checking
considering that within the last couple of years they have held juveniles of
Baird's, Western, and Stilt Sandpiper.
