>From 8:15-2:15 today I birded Cedar Beach (both marina and ocean), Robert
Moses State Park, and Captree Island marsh, all on the barrier beaches of
southwest Suffolk County. Highlights‹in chronological order‹were a CASPIAN
TERN seen from the boardwalk at Cedar Beach marina; single BAIRD'S and
BUFF-BREASTED sandpipers in the wet swale just west of the beach volleyball
courts at Cedar Beach town park (across Ocean Parkway from the marina); a
third cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Robert Moses S.P. parking field #2;
4 ROYAL TERNS on the beach east of parking field #5; a Common Nighthawk that
I first spotted heading out over the ocean before it reversed course; and
5 Little Blue Herons out on the marshes north of Captree Island. Migrant
passerines were virtually nonexistent. Saw two warblers all day‹a Palm and
a Redstart. Photos of the Baird's, LBBG, and ROTEs will be available later
