Patricia and I birded Montauk and East Hampton, LI today.

The Gannet and seaduck show was spectacular, both during the windy morning and
the calmer afternoon. Highlights at the Point included 21 Black-legged
Kittiwakes, two Red-necked Grebes, and two male King Eiders (one nearly adult,
the other a bit duller). There was an adult blue Snow Goose at the Deep Hollow
dude ranch and a Western Kingbird at Rita's Stables. Birders visiting the
latter site should check in with Rita to ask for permission and instructions
regarding where access is permitted. We had another Red-necked Grebe at
Culloden Pt., along with some feeding activity by Bonaparte's and Laughing
Gulls. These two small gull species were also present in small numbers among
the big gulls resting on Fort Pond.

At Further Lane in East Hampton we met up with Doug Futuyma and enjoyed great
looks at five Greater White-fronted Geese, one Richardson's Goose, and an adult
Snow Goose.
