Good evening,

Jessie Barry and I headed up to Sheldrake Point (Seneca County) to look for
the Pacific Loon or other goodies. The lake was fairly devoid of birds, with
one very notable exception -- a second-year male King Eider at
Sheldrake Point. Jessie found the eider about 30 seconds after we arrived.
We are able to study the bird with Jay Powell and his father-in-law, Mike,
for about thirty minutes. He was fairly close to shore on the water with
Black Scoter (4) and Mallard. Among the highlights was seeing him in flight
-- this is a large and heavy duck, which you get a sense for as they take
flight. One of the photos gives a good sense of this.

This is almost certainly the same bird that was at Myers Point two days
earlier. Myers is about 12 miles southeast of Sheldrake.

I uploaded some photos to Flickr to go with the bad photos (and video) of
the Myers bird.

Happy ducking.

Cheers,
