Just in case there are any lingering doubts there is a useful article  
on Shrike ID by Ron Pittaway and Michael King that appeared in OFO  
News in February 1999.

To summarize briefly:

.       Fall Loggerheads may show faint barring on the breast  and pale  
base of bill
.       Northerns usually show some white below the eye and narrow arch of  
whitish feathers over the bill - obvious when seen head on
.       Some Shrikes show bill size and hook intermediate between Northern  
and Loggerhead

Besides the big headed and compact shape that Shai et al describe the  
behavior of the Jones Beach bird (foraging height and no obvious  
upward tail flicking that I observed) also points towards Loggerhead.
