Just in case there are any lingering doubts there is a useful article on Shrike ID by Ron Pittaway and Michael King that appeared in OFO News in February 1999.
To summarize briefly: . Fall Loggerheads may show faint barring on the breast and pale base of bill . Northerns usually show some white below the eye and narrow arch of whitish feathers over the bill - obvious when seen head on . Some Shrikes show bill size and hook intermediate between Northern and Loggerhead Besides the big headed and compact shape that Shai et al describe the behavior of the Jones Beach bird (foraging height and no obvious upward tail flicking that I observed) also points towards Loggerhead.
