At around 8am today Ed Crowne spotted a MOURNING WARBLER in Prospect Park's Midwood. It was on the slope at the western edge of the forest a short distance from the Boulder Bridge. The bird was subsequently observed by Rob Bate at 8:50am on the opposite side of Center Drive from the Midwood in an area behind the Music Pagoda. I arrived at the Midwood at around 9:30am and had no luck finding the bird. I ultimately met up with Rob Bate and Larry Zirlin at the Boulder Bridge and the three of us walked back along the bridle path in the Midwood. We eventually found the bird at about 11:15am, low on the ridge that borders the bridle path, about 50 yards from Center Drive. After Rob and Larry departed John Walsh and I had amazing views of the bird as it perched and sang from within an Arrowwood Viburnum only a few yards from the bridle path.

Good birding,

Rob
