As I made my way out onto the Cupsogue flats early this morning, I spotted a BROWN PELICAN on a sandbar to the west. Within a minute, it was flushed by a Coast Guard boat (I hope they accomplished something today besides scaring wildlife). The pelican flew off to the west and I didn't see it again.
Unfortunately, terns were lackluster today. The Black Tern is still around. I guess the next most interesting thing was a first summer Least Tern, which stayed in the company of the Common Terns, rather than the Leasts. After that, you'd have to enjoy variations in non-breeding plumage Commons.
