As I made my way out onto the Cupsogue flats early this morning, I spotted a 
BROWN PELICAN on a sandbar to the west. Within a minute, it was flushed by a 
Coast Guard boat (I hope they accomplished something today besides scaring 
wildlife). The pelican flew off to the west and I didn't see it again. 

Unfortunately, terns were lackluster today. The Black Tern is still around. I 
guess the next most interesting thing was a first summer Least Tern, which 
stayed in the company of the Common Terns, rather than the Leasts. After that, 
you'd have to enjoy variations in non-breeding plumage Commons.
