Yes, and quite some time ago at that. My first of the season for New York was at the Ruth Oliva Preserve in East Marion, Long Island on Sept. 17th. Then my first of the season here in New Jersey was on Oct. 6th at Troy Meadows.

Or White-throated sparrows? I saw my first-of-season Juncos and White-Throated Sparrows this past Sunday, in Falls Village, CT (in the northwest corner of the state). It was a small, active flock of maybe 6-8 birds and one of the sparrows sang for a bit. I know it's not NY but since I've seen them further north, i'm wondering how long it's going to be before we see them in the NYC/LI area. Those birds mean winter's almost here.... chop the firewood! happy birding everyone Cindy Wodinsky -- NYSbirds-L List Info: <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME> Welcome and Basics <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES> Rules and Information <http://www.northeastbirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm> Subscribe, Configuration and Leave Archives: The Mail Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html> <http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L> Surfbirds BirdingOnThe.Net <http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html> Please submit your observations to <http://ebird.org/content/ebird/> eBird! -- -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
