Here is what Carl Safina had to say about where he saw the Gyr yesterday at Jones Beach (Nassau Co.),
I suspect that before we saw it, it went from Zach’s, where I suspect it was the cause of the mass uprising of Brant that we saw (but did not see a raptor then) up the parkway, where we first saw it less than five minutes after the Brant settled back in Zack’s. At our first sighting the Gyr was flying north at the north end of the southernmost of the Wantagh bridges, on the west side of the parkway. We followed as it went north for maybe another mile, then we lost it behind some trees on the west side of the parkway, still along the water.
