Thanks to Dale Dancis and Lynne Hertzog I was alerted to the presence of Northern Gannets on the Hudson River. From 1:20 this afternoon until I left at 2:45 Northern Gannets were continually in view from the end of the 70th Street Pier at River Side Park, Manhattan. The birds are flying around, plunge diving and sitting on the water, mainly south and west of the pier. I had three adults in view at the same time and one first year bird. I believe that there were more but couldn't be sure.

Also seen was a Lesser Black-backed Gull, a Laughing Gull and a couple of Forster's Terns. If you go a scope is helpful. Dress warm. There is a biting wind and it is bitter cold.
