Conditions look quite promising for significant flights of Golden Eagles this weekend at the Franklin Mt. Hawkwatch near Oneonta. Northwest winds and dropping temperatures are forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. These are ideal conditions, and coupled with the backup of raptors over the past few days from the storm passage, plus the timing of the migratory peak for this species--the stars are aligned for good numbers.

Good numbers of Red-tailed Hawks also occur with these conditions, as well as Red-shouldered Hawks and other late-season birds.

If you visit, be sure to dress warmly--it can be considerably colder on the mountain than elsewhere.

More information on the Franklin Mt. Hawkwatch, including directions, can be found at www.franklinmt.org.
