One of my teeth broke off over the weekend, making the dentist appointment in
Wading River at 1230 today, the only place I absolutely had to be this fine
day...for that is what it turned out to be !
Routing myself on to Hulse Landing Rd. in W.R., before seeing if Dr. Art Jarit
could work his magic once again, I found the Merlin that has been reported by a
number of birders recently. It was in the same tree near the water hole,
between Rt. 25A and the power line R.O.W., as it was, when I first saw it on
2/13. Encouraged by this "playing", getting back to "business"was somewhat
easier.
Using 6 titanium pins, Art was able to re-set the tooth, saving me from more
extensive work and expense. He's been our dentist for ~ 30 years now, proving
himself to be great at it ... and a good man !
The drive home was equally as fortuitous. On the n/s of Sound Ave, 1/8th mile
w/o Doctors Path, Riverhead, a light morph, Rough-legged Hawk waited for
me...what good fortune ! Being my FOS, together with the 2 "pluses"
above, I decided to "push the envelope" and try for the Iceland Gull (seen by
many) at Iron Pier Beach, Jamesport - a bird I've missed so far this year.
Well, I missed today too, but I did find 5 Snow Geese (4 of them Blue morphs)
in a large flock of canadas on the n/s of Sound Ave, ~1/8th mile e/o Northville
Tpke. The birds were feeding in the field, between the Northville Fuel Tanks
and Sound Ave.
Cheers,Bob
