Good views this morning of the active Cliff Swallow nests on the Rt 9/9A Croton
River bridge. Viewed from the Croton River shoreline within Van Cortlandt
Manor. (The nests are on the upstream, eastern side of the bridge.) A Green
Heron was also seen here along the Croton River shoreline.

Inside Croton Point Park this am: both Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, several
singing House Wrens and Yellow Warblers, gnatcatchers apparently in every
corner, and a lone American Redstart. Two kestrels seen on the landfill, male
and female.

Nearby at the Furnace Dock Rd power lines, east of Rt 9A, were singing Prairie
and Blue-Winged Warblers.

(Conservation note: discussions have been underway the last few months between
Westchester County park staff, the county Dept of Env. Facilities which manages
the capped landfill, local Audubon chapters and other environmental reps for
better habitat management at Croton Point Park. More details on initial
management changes proposed for this year are available.)
