Today between ~ 4:00 & 7:15 PM, I birded Westhampton Dunes Overlook & Cupsogue Co. Pk.
Stopping at the overlook first, I found 16 Royal Terns, 10 adults & 4 juveniles. One of the young was being fed by a parent, while another looked like it was practicing its own feeding dive - as it gained about 20' and then dove (~ 5x) into the shallow water just beyond the sandbar, which held the remaining resting birds. On the flats at Cupsogue, the only birds of note were 3 (possibly 4) Black Terns. Cheers, Bob P.S...Before wading out to the flats, I noticed 2 birders already out there. I continued to see them making their way north, after each one of my "stops". That is, until the time that I looked up to find them gone ! A quick 360" produced the same results, and believe it or not , I did think of a boat... but couldn't find any likely suspects. I was unable to recognize them from the rear, but now, knowing their identity (Jim I've met once, but Lee I haven't) want to thank them for the "heads up " ! -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
