Late this morning I went to Jones Beach WE2. Found the Northern Shrike on a tree directly south of the parking lot (just west of the large swath of un-vegetated beach) without even trying. After I took one photo it was gone.
A few large flocks of Snowy Bunting were moving about the beach - and a few owls were around including one that was a kill (rabbit?) which resulted in a decent sized crowd by the time I left (~12:30) Photos of the Shrike and other birds can be seen here: http://birdsoflongisland.blogspot.com/2014/01/new-year-new-bird.html -- - Luke www.birdsoflongisland.blogspot.com -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
