Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City -

With some a.m. sauntering, some movement in evidence: a Great Egret at
the Pond (lurking in the reeds near the bridge), a nice arrival of
Golden-crowned Kinglets and Brown Creepers, additional Chipping
Sparrows, and a great many more E. Phoebes (esp. seen in the n. end of
the park), plus a scattered smattering of Hermit Thrush, also most
evident in the north end. At the reservoir, the Red-necked Grebe
continued, seen near the n. side as it generally has been, & a pair of
Red-breasted Mergansers also continued. Far more Buffleheads were in -
as well as Double-crested Cormorants. The lake held at least 7 Wood
Ducks, & the single drakes also continued at the Pond & Meer. A
search for warblers - of any kind - was unproductive other than the
lingering Pine Warbler in the Ramble, where 2 overwintered Baltimore
Orioles also remained. Black-crowned Night, & Great Blue, Herons were
in same areas as have been lately; "red" Fox Sparrows were still in
the multiple as well as good numbers of Slate-colored Juncos
lingering. It is still somewhat in that nether realm of "is it the end
of winter or beginning of spring..." but spring seems to be getting
ahead now.

good birding,
