On Saturday Sue and I had seven Red-necked Grebes at Montauk Pt. and three at
Shinnecock Inlet. Besides a female King Eider at the Point there was little
else but waterfowl. Passerines, with the exception of American Robin, were
largely missing. Also notably missing were blackbirds (we had one Red-winged
Blackbird), which in most years we would expect in number by the end of
February.
