During a Piping Plover survey in Queens, I observed a Glaucous Gull at
Breezy Point. On the bayside at the same location, I came across 7 Tree
Swallows who were hunkered down on the beach getting sand blasted and
probably wondering why they bothered migrating. There were small flocks of
Red-winged Blackbirds on the move with smaller number of Common Grackles in
the mix.

Stops at Fort Tilden and Riis Park were non productive. At Rocky Point
Marsh, I had one American Oystercatcher and 13 American Wigeon.

A shorter than usual stop at Idlewild Park, netted 9 Wood Ducks and 13
Killdeers.

Over at Brookville Park, the notables were 5 Greater Yellowlegs up from 4
and 1 Wood Duck.

Later at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, 1 Osprey was seen checking out the
platform in the south marsh. I looked for and did not see any Barrow's; in
fact, I could not find any Common Goldeneye in Pumpkin Channel which has
opened up quite a bit.

Cheers,
