This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of September 28, 2015 Highlights:----------- BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONCACKLING GOOSEEURASIAN WIGEONLONG-BILLED DOWITCHERHUDSONIAN GODWITORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERPINE SISKIN
Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)------------ 10/6: 4 HUDSONIAN GODWITS were seen both at Eaton Marsh and Knox-Marsellus Marsh, presumably the same birds. 10/7: The four HUDSONIAN GODWITS along with LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were all seen at Eaton Marsh. A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was at the visitor’s Center. An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen in the main Pool and has been reported through the 11th. 10/8: 11 species of shorebirds including two of the HUDSONIAN GODWITS and a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER were found along the Wildlife Drive. 10/10: 8 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in the Sandhill Crane Unit on VanDyne Spoor Road. 10/11: The group of 4 HUDSONIAN GODWITS were again present at Eaton Marsh. 10/12: Only 1 HUDSONIAN GODWIT reported at Eaton Marsh. Onondaga County------------ 10/8: A CACKLING GOOSE was spotted at Oneida Shores. Oswego County------------ 10/8: PINE SISKINS were seen in Constantia. Madison County------------ 10/9: A MERLIN was spotted on Irish Hill Road south of Cazenovia. Oneida County------------ 10/5: An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen off of North Gage Road west of Poland. 10/6: A CACKLING GOOSE was found in Verona Swamp on Rt.31 west of Rt. 365. Cayuga County------------ 10/7: 7 species of Shorebirds including a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were found at Fair Haven State Park.
