After Dennis Hrehowsik's initial report this morning there continued to be a nice trickle of Cave Swallows at Coney Island throughout the day. The birds were moving from east to west.
At one point Keir Randall, Josh Malbin and I watched a flock of 9 near W. 24th St. and the boardwalk. There are two buildings at that location, a senior residence and a tall apartment building. In addition to offering a break to very strong north-west winds, there appeared to be some insects present indicated by the swallows foraging behavior. There were still reports from that spot as recently as 3:15pm.
