En-route from Riverhead to my FOY visit to Hempstead Lake State Park, via the Ocean Parkway, I did not see the Upland Sandpiper...nor did I see it on the return trip. At H.L.S.P., I did find a FOY Palm Warbler, FOY Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and FOY Hermit Thrush. My best "first" of the day was meeting a fairly young birder, Michael Zito of Massapequa, and enjoyed birding around the park with him !
