Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City

Among the species recorded in Central for Wednesday were Least Flycatcher, seen by Joe DiCostanzo's early bird walk group for the AMNH (American Museum of Natural History) & by some other observers later in the day;  altogether (at least) 20 warbler species were tallied by many observers from all parts of the park.  The n. end areas have had essentially all of the species that are also being seen in the Ramble & vicinity as of the last 2 or 3 days. Many, perhaps most of the birds being seen in the day prior were again seen, or possible to see. There may have been an uptick in a few spp. including swallows, with a couple of Bank Swallows joining others quite late in the day at the Meer.  The reservoir had a moderate no. of gulls at one point in the afternoon, however I failed to pick out any other than the most-regular 3 spp. which are there almost year-round.

Riverside Park has had a good variety of migrants as well, although with a tiny fraction of the coverage that the many hundreds of observers in Central offer, at this point in the season.  Central even managed to attract a few Bronx, Brooklyn, & Queens birders - as well as those from many nations.

Plenty of migration is underway again this cool night on locally light west winds.

good birding,
