I was wondering if anyone had an idea about what bird that my father might have seen at the Duck Pond in Bronxville today. It was grayish with about a 3 foot wingspan and came down and grabbed a fish out of the Bronx River like an eagle would do. It grabbed the fish with its talons, not its beak, and did not dive like an Osprey does. My father knows what Ospreys look like and knows birds pretty well and couldn't figure out what it was. Kingfishers are grayish, but not nearly that large and obviously don't catch their prey that way. He was walking the trail around the river and was heading into the sun but was wearing sunglasses so wasn't blinded by the sun. I'm puzzled to what it might be. Andrew Andrew v. F.
