Roosevelt Island - Four Freedoms Park Thursday May 11, 2017 OBS: Deborah Allen
Brant - flock of 22 Canada Goose - at least 2 batches of goslings Mallard Double-crested Cormorant Purple Sandpiper - 2 Spotted Sandpiper - female Four Freedoms Park is at the southern tip of Roosevelt Island and is open daily except Tuesday. The Spotted Sandpiper, Purple Sandpipers and Brant were on the east (Queens) side of the FDR memorial. It appears the best time for viewing the Purple Sandpipers is at high tide and for a couple of hours after. Once the tide receded a bit and exposed rocks offshore, the Purple Sandpipers relocated there. A big thank you to the many people who have tweeted about these birds (#birdcp @BirdCentralPark) for the past month.
