I had the pleasure of visiting my old stomping grounds with some old
friends at the Cabanas at Point Lookout today. Of course, I took a
walk to Nickerson Beach to check out the Colonies, where there are
still plenty of Black Skimmers and Common Terns around along with
plenty of young birds. A real surprise was a Western Willet running
around on the beach in front of the Colony with a few Sanderling and a
Ruddy Turnstone. - Seemed really odd, allowing close approach while
feeding. Eventually it took off to the west when typical beach
activity got to be too much for it. Pretty neat.....I wonder if this
bird may have something to do with the recent reports of Franklin's
Gulls in the area?
