Highlights: A cold, blustery day made searching for small passerines a challenge, nevertheless there were some good birds around including a female Ring-necked Duck (First-Of-Season) on the Meer, Fox Sparrows, and a Cooper's Hawk. Canada Goose - 8 on the Meer and one flyover Northern Shoveler - 18 Meer Mallard - 37 Meer Ring-necked Duck - female Meer (FOS) tweeted at 9:36AM Ruddy Duck - 14 Meer Herring Gull - flyovers Cooper's Hawk - flyover 110th Street tweeted at 7:06AM Red-tailed Hawk - 2 flyovers (1 local,1 migrant - Great Hill) Red-bellied Woodpecker - male North Woods Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 2 Blue Jay - 10 American Crow - 3 flyovers seen together Brown Creeper - (Louise Burns) North Woods Golden-crowned Kinglet - North Woods Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 2 (Wildflower Meadow & Loch) Hermit Thrush - Conservatory Garden American Robin - around 20 Conservatory Garden Gray Catbird - Conservatory Garden House Finch - around 10 Chipping Sparrow - 2 - Grassy Knoll/Sparrow Ridge Fox Sparrow - 2 North Woods Song Sparrow - 5 White-throated Sparrow - 25-30 Dark-eyed Junco - 20 (several locations) Northern Cardinal - residents -- Others reported: Stefan Passlick tweeted a Great Blue Heron with fishing line in its bill at the Loch at 8:39A [@StefanPasslick]. Alice Deutsch tweeted an injured Yellow-rumped Warbler at the Pinetum at 8:42AM [@AliceDeutsch]. Tony Gazso tweeted the continuing female Ring-necked Duck with Ruddy Ducks at the Meer at 10:47AM [ATonyGazso]. Frank Rutella told us about a Cooper's Hawk in his backyard in Manhattan north of Central Park between 118th and 119th Streets. David Barret tweeted a Northern Harrier over the Great Lawn at 1:54PM [@FastMiler]. David also tweeted a lot of nice birds from the northern part of Manhattan today including Turkey Vultures, Bald Eagles, an Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk, Bonaparte's Gulls, Northern Harrier, Northern Pintail, Snow Geese and a Vesper Sparrow.
