Although the Nighthawk Watch won't start until Monday night, some of us can't help ourselves and have been going there before the offical kickoff.
We weren't disappointed as we saw 189 nighthawks last night, with one "kettle" involving 54 birds. As dusk came on, we had a dozen nighthawks and at least two dozen swifts coursing low over the pond and twenty feet over the bridge. Then, in the span of about 30 seconds all the birds left, making for a remarkable end.
