While herping this evening the woodcock was back at his usual courting place next to the upper parking lot at the visitor center. He made some sounds I had not heard them make before. A very accomidating bird. Also had a first for me there, at least three Whip-poor-wills calling just after dark. Didn't know they were nesting there. Suppose they might have been passing through, but they seemed to be on territory. Nice. Also had two species of a family of birds we're not allowed ot mention here.
