Though Shai’s Sage Thrasher from yesterday could not be found despite an army
of people searching at Robert Moses SP this morning and later in the day, we
got a call just after 9:00 a.m. from Dave Chernak whose group had just had a
likely Cave Swallow passing the hawkwatch east to west with a few Tree
Swallows. Looking up, we saw a Cave Swallow passing close by the Field 5
pavilion with a few Trees. Later around 12:40, Aidan P had another fly over at
the hawkwatch (earlier he had had a late Barn Swallow as well) and Jeanne C had
a candidate Cave Swallow also.
If the winds stay NW and strong like today, tomorrow might be another good
opportunity to look for these. West End Jones Beach or anywhere along LI’s
outer coast will have equal potential.
Good luck if you try,
