New York County -in N.Y. City- including Manhattan, Governors, Randalls, and
Roosevelt Islands and the adjacent waters and skies above -

At least 14 Purple Sandpipers showed on the rocky shore of Governors Island,
just south of Manhattan, on Thursday, 1-13, and also seen both Wed. and Thurs.
were 2 still-present American Wigeons there, and also some Common Goldeneye and
Greater Scaup as well as various other typical winter waterfowl. Lesser Scaup
have been off Randalls Island, and off Inwood Hill Park in n. Manhattan.
Killdeer have been ongoing in low numbers at several sites in the county this
week, including at Sherman Creek in n. Manhattan.

At Randalls Island, both Pine and Orange-crowned Warblers proved to be still
wintering, as those species have on Manhattan thus far, and some of the
sparrows of recent note were still seen on Randalls as well, into Thursday. A
duck reported off Randalls will be in review via eBird, not a species thats
uncommon in N.Y. City waters overall. A single long-staying Snow Goose was
continuing at Central Park this week, along with multiple species of duck,
including Common and Hooded Mergansers, etc.

Many many more species are also being seen this week in this county, again
including a variety of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey.

Thanks to many observers and photographers for sightings and alerts, reports
coming via non-x bird alerts and as always via eBird including the Macaulay
Library for media.

Good birding to all - safe driving to anyone driving thru the weekend weather.
